South & North Luangwa National Parks

South-Luangwa-10-email

South Luangwa National Park is one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. The variety of wildlife is really quite special, and Luangwa Valley is the only home to subspecies as the Thornicroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s wildebeest and Crayshaw’s zebra.

Premier photographic opportunities not only with the mesmerising landscape but with the large concentrations of game present. The river is the blood line of the South Luangwa park; every “emerald” rainy season the river floods its banks and when this subsides it leaves numerous oxbow lakes and lagoons which become home to the variety of animals to be discovered in Zambia, including the highest concentration of hippo in the world.

Take your walking safari in South Luangwa and spot 400 of the 732 species of bird in Zambia, have your breath taken away by the vegetation and habitats and observe the beautiful big cats.

Far more remote than South Luangwa, North Luangwa National Park is as wild and untouched as Africa gets. There is no direct public access – you can only experience the park at the hands of walking safari guides.  And that’s where we come in.  We’ve picked the best guides and nearby lodges in order to provide you with the best opportunity to experience nature undisturbed.

North Luangwa National Park preserves over 4,000 square kilometres of wildlife habitat on the west bank of the Luangwa River from human interference.  Declared a wilderness area in the 1950s, it was not until the 1980s that anyone other than park rangers were permitted in the park.

On a walking safari in the park you’re likely to encounter massive buffalo herds, prides of lions with ever-hopeful hyaenas and vultures following their movements.    The park is also noted for zebra, impala, Cookson’s wildebeest and vervet monkeys. Formerly one of Zambia’s black rhino strongholds, the park was chosen as the location for the reintroduction of the black rhino after it was poached to extinction.

No matter what species interests you, the primary reason for visiting North Luangwa is to experience nature undisturbed: close up and on foot. Book a truly memorable safari through us at ZAMAG TOURS AND SAFARIS.
