Old Mondoro is situated in a remote area of Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park, and overlooks reed islands in the Zambezi River where elephants regularly feed and hippos bask.
With just five bush chalets, 2 river facing and 3 lagoon facing for a maximum of 10 guests, Old Mondoro has an exclusive, intimate atmosphere and is set amongst a beautiful grove of winterthorn trees. Two of the chalets overlook the Zambezi River, whilst a third overlooks a small lagoon, and the fourth has a view of both these environments. Each chalet has a shaded timber sun deck with a comfy day bed and an en-suite open-air shower and stone bath with a view. One of the chalets has a second bedroom, so is well suited to a family. The main lounge, dining and bar area at Old Mondoro is a large, open-sided structure with a polished stone floor and canvas roof.
One can explore the Zambezi River and its islands by boat, awesome opportunities for photographing birds, elephant, hippo and crocodiles or take part in bush walks and day and night game drives. Old Mondoro has an open and adventurous feel, providing a perfect retreat after a day filled with excitement in the bush and yet where much of the action will happen right in front of you.
Brunch, perhaps at a surprise location in the bush, dinner and drinks served under the stars by the campfire, smiling faces and the warmest of welcomes all make magic memories of Old Mondoro to last a lifetime.
