Nestled in a patch of pristine woodland on the edge of the Hwange National Park, the lodge is unique in it’s style and design. The main lodge is a magnificent stone structure with a thatched roof, built in a U shape around a huge ancient camelthorn tree. Being situated on the edge of Ngamo Plain, Camelthorn Lodge is perfectly placed to explore the remote and unspoilt south eastern portion of the park.
Accomodation consists of 8 forest villas, built with stone and offering space and comfort. Each offer ensuite bathrooms, fans and a fireplace. 4 of the villas have private splash pools. There is WIFI in the main lodge. Camelthorn offers game drives and game walks, all with highly experienced knowledgeable guides. They also offer night drives and school or rural village visits. School visits are not available in April, August and December, only in Mid January during the school holidays. The highlight of Camelthorn’s activities must be the 6m long underground blind with a flush toilet. It is situated under a camelthorn tree and is disguised as an anthill. Spectacular sunsets and game sightings can be seen from the hide. Another popular activity is going on a pump run, where fuel, oil and rations are taken deep into the park to the 16 waterholes that the lodge operates. This is an all day trip with picnics on the way Birdlife is also prolific at the lodge and will keep many a birdwatcher busy. Horse Safari and Spa treatments are available at an additional cost.
Guests can also access the lodge using the Elephant Express rail car which goes from Dete Siding to Ngamo Siding. This is a fabulous trip where guests can enjoy a game drive along the way. Guests can also charter a plane into Bomani Airstrip (Seasonal)
