Little Makalolo Camp is one of Hwange National Park’s best wildlife viewing areas. It offers privacy to guests who enjoy small camps and a sense of remoteness. The area is ecologically diverse, ensuring great numbers of animals year-round.
Nestled in the tree line are the camp’s six spacious en-suit tents with both indoor and outdoor showers all run on highly efficient solar panels. Teak walkways lead to the main dining and living area with views of the much-frequented waterhole. In front of the main area, an outdoor fire-pit surrounded by chairs provides a real focal point for the camp, where guests can warm themselves with a hot drink around the fire first thing in the morning or perhaps evening drinks. Little Makalolo also has a small plunge pool with some deck chairs that provide a great place to cool off during the hot afternoons. Situated on a raised platform overlooking the Madison Pan, the star-bed is a twenty- minute drive from camp and offers a secluded, remote wilderness experience and an opportunity to sleep under the stars.
Outstanding game viewing can be experienced from the log-pile hide that overlooks the waterhole in front of the camp. Elephant are regular visitors to the waterhole both day and night. Away from the camp, Makalolo’s private area within Hwange has strong populations of big game – particularly buffalo and giraffe. Lion and leopard are seen regularly, cheetah are scarce but present, and there is a good population of wildog.
